It was a relief to see photos of her looking basically okay and to see that she's home.

The news channel showed video footage of her at home, as well. She looked subdued and maybe a bit sad, but otherwise appeared in pretty decent shape considering what she's been through.

I was horrified by the photos at the time of the incident, but happy to see the after photos.

I hope Daisy's cruel abuser gets caught, wrapped in duct tape and then slowly ripped off his skin. Very, very slowly. That'd be the only punishment that could even remotely fit this incredibly cruel form of abuse against an innocent animal.

Hi, Lkessler,

I'm pleased that you could take some comfort in the after photos. Seeing the photos (and video from the news cast that the station didn't post) made me feel better, too. Doesn't take away from the horror of what happened, of course, but at least we can see concretely that she's coming along.

I can't understand how somebody could be so cruel to Daisy or any animal. I hope they find who did this. Glad that Daisy is okay and home now.

Hi, Firewitch,

Thanks for your comment.

It is astounding, isn't it? Hard to imagine. But it's such good news that she's recovering.

I wonder if the jerk who did this got the idea from the poor cat that was similarly duct-taped. At least they caught the abusive freak who did that. (link)

I see now pays to read the entire article......thanks for the update.

She looks like she has been through a real ordeal-- that kind of stunned look. Poor little thing!

Dowser,

that kind of stunned look

Yes! "Stunned." That was the word I was looking for. It came across even more clearly in the video they showed on the news cast. But at least she's healing and in one piece.

No telling what she had been through-- and she can't tell us. That is the horrid part, she just can't tell us. I wonder if she would react negatively, if she saw her captor again? I just hope that she is going to be ok, mentally, as well as physically. Poor little baby. What a horrible thing to have to live through.

    Dowser,

I wonder too. I guess the good thing about dogs is that they tend to live in the moment.

I remember when we first brought Alex home. He'd been through a rough time, too. When he arrived, he looked so depressed. I started walking him just to get him to perk up. He was so obviously depressed that the little girl down the street, who had her own Sammie, used to follow us around, asking the whole time why his head was down and his tail, etc, etc. Poor kid.

But, and this is my point, after a few months he not only healed physically but emotionally, too. He ended up acting like he owned the neighborhood. He was so proud of himself. He used to strut up and down the street and would just sit around beaming, he was so happy. He was always a big quirky and neurotic but clearly a happy guy.

Check out the update below. It's the latest local story.

    Dowser,

Thanks, but honestly, he gave me so much more than I gave him. He was such a gift.

This is very good: I just posted a comment below about how the NY Post picked up the story and the HSUS is donating to the reward. Excellent! The wider the coverage and the bigger the pot, the more likely it is that this situation will result in an arrest and some real attention from the judicial system.

Ooops. I looked at that video again. To clarify, stills of her at home but video of the news cast.

Of note, she got back home due to a microchip. Good to know.

Seems I just read something about 40% of microchips do not get updated. Please check yours to make sure it has the right information...

    Hi, Steven,

Thanks! Excellent advice! I sure will and hope everyone else will, too.

Oh, and also keep contact info about the chip handy. Chip registration number and how to contact them if your animal goes missing or you do need to update info. While all the microchip info is in my pets' individual medical folders, I also keep the info on index cards in my rolodex file for quicker access.

The New York Post has also reported the story. Says it's the Humane Society of the United States that's offering the $2500 reward. (Local news had indicated "the local humane society.") This is even better. Suggests the story is getting the wider attention it deserves. Makes it harder for the local DA and judge to punt if an arrest occurs.

Add to the HSUS award the $1K from the local business owner in # 5, and the pot may be large enough to get someone to talk.

Please note the fact reported that that the dog made it home because of her microchip.

Let's hope the media keeps the pressure on this story. Someone needs to be caught and arrested.
